In Hopes that Affordable Sports Cars have Returned, For Good
With the introduction of the Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S, and Subaru BRZ, the automotive world has been shocked back into action lately. With demand on these cars exceeding expectations by far, other companies’ attention has been caught.
Of course the Mazda MX-5 Miata has stuck around while others have fallen off the sports car globe, and this more than likely means the competition will force Mazda to make the Miata better.
And the Hyundai Genesis Coupe cannot be forgotten either. Hyundai claims the car was “inspired by driving enthusiasts” and with the base car having a 2.0L turbocharged engine and an optional 3.8L V6 R-Spec (manual transmission only) with almost 350hp, you’d have to agree with their claim.
On top of this, it has been rumored that Nissan will join the game soon with a possible 240SX successor to compete with the FR-S/GT86/BRZ. They have also looked at scaling down the 370Z to the smaller and less expensive sports car class.
So by lowering the bar, Toyota/Scion/Subaru has in turn raised the bar to create competition from others. We can only hope that others will soon join the show. Bring it on!
